What is a domain name?
A domain name is a customized address on the Internet. It is similar to a telephone number on the international telephone network.
When some one wants to phone you, he/she will need to dial your telephone number; On the internet, when a visitor is looking to find you, she/he will need to type your, internet address, i.e. a domain name in her/his web browser (a program).
Besides with your own domain name, you can receive email at your own name. For example, if you registered the domain name DrWriter.com, you could have an email address of yourname@drwriter.com.
Examples of domain names:
wellkang.com, eulawcenter.org, hoteleasy.net, etc.
The Internet is a global information network that has the capability to move information internationally within moments. To organize the Internet's immense user base, ICANN (The Internet Corporation For Assigned Names and Numbers) assigned 244 countries and territories unique country code top level Domains (TLDs). For example, Sweden's is .se, United Kingdom's (Britain's) is .uk, China's is .cn. A TLD is the domain name extension that helps locate your website on the Internet. Country Code TLDs are operated by different registries than that which manages the .com, .net, and .org generic TLDs, though all TLDs function similarly on the Internet.
.com, .net, .org, .biz, and .info domain names can be registered by anyone in any country, while certain country codes are restricted. The majority of country codes are globally available, however, and many businesses register their brands within these country codes to help protect their trademarks internationally.
